This show popped up in beta tests and surprise builds. Many players are suddenly seeing a strange code, 018, instead of friend counts.
Is Your Steam Friends List Stuck on 018? Here's The Weird Glitch is a rendering bug. It happens when profile sync stutters during updates. Research shows client version mismatches often trigger this display freeze.
Usually restarting Steam or the game clears it fast. Patches should fix this oddity permanently over time.
Why does this code appear suddenly? A sudden client update can break friend list sync for a short time. Studies indicate cache conflicts confuse the counting system briefly.
How can you fix it right now? Relaunch Steam or verify game files to reset the sync. This usually forces a fresh pull from the servers.
Q: Does 018 mean my account is banned? A: No, this is only a visual sync error. Your account and friends remain fully normal.
Q: Will I lose friends if this happens? A: No, friends are stored on servers. This glitch only affects the local display number.
